This comic page reminds me of a moment in Mossflower( this is a rough approximation):
"I think it’s time I told you guys how my fried Timberlisto got his name."
…..well I think Cad may be down a mother if his brother is running around without her. It’s too much to expect that good aligned people in the cities would have a high survival rate….
Can beholders un-stone creatures? I seem to recall Bob’s mother making reference to de-petrifying something for dinner way back in the earliest days of YAFGC. A curious experiment if that could be done to reverse a gorgon’s work.
Not sure how a bow fits into that … other than, I sure as hell would want a ranged weapon to take out gorgons & beholders etc. a the greatest distance possible.
It’s also quite possible that a Beholder’s ability to de-Petrify works *only*on a subject of Beholder’s Petrification. If so, then Bob couldn’t de-Petrify anyone who was petrified by any other creature except another Beholder.
Indeed. Exactly why I used the word "experiment." Just as possible, a beholder (or gorgon, basilisk, etc.) might only be able to de-petrify a creature they themselves have petrified. Depending upon the creature/magic user/spell type, it could be highly personalized or very generalized.
Some variants might kill the subject at the moment of petrification, while others may place them into stasis for a time period so it could be undone. At some point (instantaneously or decades/centuries later), the subject would have to pass into the afterlife.
Given the current story arc, it’s especially relevant if Ranna is what’s waiting for you in he afterlife.
I was a player in a game once where we de-petrified a "statue" into the original human she was. Turned out she’d been in stasis for over 400 years, the victim of a wizard’s spell. A very valuable NPC for us for quite a while, with intimate knowledge of history and lost points of interest. Our gaming group had a number of interesting discussions along this entire line of thought, but we never did get to explore them before we disbanded. I always wanted to do this with the world I hosted, and sadly never had the time.
So, yeah, I’m very curious how Rich handles it for the YAFGC universe.
1. I think that Midnight is right here and Beholder can depetrify their own prey, cause they cant eat stone. Also they stone them with a beam. Gorgons use their gaze or the victim petrifys itself by looking.
2. If Charles kills the gorgon and said gorgon is "linked" to Ranna (as the gorgonised priestess all seem 2 be) wouldn’t Ranna know about it?
1. That’s how it works in DnD but the comic doesn’t necesserally follow those rules, despite the similarities. Its still a good baseline assumption till proven otherwise though.
2. I think it depends if it’s a ‘natural’ gorgon who willingly follows Ranna, or a ‘convert’ who us at least partially under Ranna’s control, if not actively puppeted by the goddess (she’s a deity, she can do that and polymorph effects don’t typically alter the subject’s alignment or outlook).
He was going nuts…
Does the idea involves attacking them with the bow?
I hope not. Based on what we’ve seen so far, the chances of them surviving against the Rannites are slim to none, let alone succeeding.
Me-thinks the alchemist is going to get a message a la Holy Grail.
Building up… tension?
Kill them…kill them all and may the gods choose their people
Thank you for the in-strip time context! I had been wondering.
Especially as we haven’t seen these two characters since May 2016. (Egad!)
t!
"Not leaving here, without my brother"
I hate to be the bearer of bad news kiddo, your brother isn’t going anywhere except as part of a touring art exhibition.

Yup. http://yafgc.net/comic/0005-name-dropper/
It could be offered to a Griffin as dental floss…

Use of the word ‘makeshift’ for casually insulting purposes, as in ‘Your makeshift trousers/car/kitchen/life-partner/nose’ etc.
I also have an interesting idea, but mine would involve much pain and tears…
The idea is chopping onions, and I have no idea how effective it would be.
