He might just be a sorcerer and doesn’t have any weaker spells to use on flys…
A simple Prestidigitation cantrip to conjur up a small flame would suffice to grill flies, but a torrent of flame takes less effort to aim.
and as a sorcerer you can burn cantrips and lv1 spells like there paper at a bonfire at higher levels, even more if your using mat mercers runechild sorcerer
And as a sorcerer, he gets his power from his Charisma score and is therefore much more emotional. And so more likely to FLY into a rage!

Well, the best way of mosquito fighting are Word of Radiance cantrip and Spirit Guardians/Guardian of Faith spells or a Sickening Radiance if you are really pissed.
It's a pity, that Kurassa's soul isn't divine enough for that.
