It’s the incidental details I like, like Cadugan resetting his ear.

Isn’t he just signing to Lucas?

In the previous panel, he took the sound pretty hard.

The bell going of has me curious now…as if it was used on cue to drop the harpsichord on the victim

I’m guessing that the bell was used to cover the sound of the harpsichord landing on Taurenil’s corpse. Which would likely place Maula near the refectory when the rope was cut.

Is there a map of this place?

Also, what happened to the "new art style?" It seems to have reverted at the point when Lucas and Cadugan began their journey to St. Aldwin’s.

The new art style hit a snag that Rich had landed a gig that was eating too much time to go through and clean up, so the revert was done so that he could at least still pump out the story.

Otherwise, your little theory rings true to me. It strikes a chord.

I imagine Rich will do at least some clean up before this book is printed. He does have all the pride of an artist, after all.

So the killer knew exactly when the bell would ring, and dropped the harpsichord an instant BEFORE. That requires either split-second automated chronometry of a type I’m guessing does not exist in this world — especially in an anti-magic bubble — or that the person who dropped the harpsichord was in direct contact with the person who rang the bell. (Doesn’t mean the bell-ringer was an accomplice, necessarily, but at the very least they were being closely watched.)

It doesn’t HAVE to be split-second timing. If the lunch bell’s reverberation was strong enough, the vibrations could have startled the deaf mouse, whose tail was tied to a mechanism that would cut the rope holding the harpsichord (I admit, that seems contrived, in a Rube Goldberg sort of way). It would be helpful to know the procedures for getting the bell rung. Does someone in the kitchen ring a servant’s-type bell when the grub is ready and Brother Quasimodo sounds the gong?

Also, where on the grounds is the bell tower with respect to the block and tackle?

Like, what are sight lines between the two spots?

And most of the fans seemed to prefer his "classic" style anyway!

I’ll follow Rich’s work in whatever style he chooses to explore…but yeah, the classic sketches are like a comfortable favorite pair of shoes. The new high-contrast ones pinched a bit.

That said, if his schedule relaxes and he decides to go back to exploring other styles, it’s cool. Who wouldn’t want to watch an artist stretch their wings and invent new things?

I love the shoe analogy. Because of course, it fits perfectly. 😉

I have a hunch the culprit is the bell ringer. Quasi modo-operandi and all that.

Yes, I know, I’m really stretching things for that pun. 😀

Poor Lucas. At least he has human senses right now thanks to the anti-magic bubble. Imagine what that bell would’ve done to werewolf ears.

Depends on if the bell’s silver…
