This convinces me even more that Maula 100% knows who the murderer is and will play along with the investigation because it’s amusing for her. In the end, she will have her Sherlock Holmes moment to lay out exactly what happened and why.
The look they share in the final panel is not what was in the original script. But it is SO much better. It looks like they’re taking the piss out of the know-it-alls.

OMG!!! Even if it’s not in the story I just want to see that now.
Captain Fang, investigating random pockets of his trenchcoat: "Hey, a sandwich! And some sand! And a witch! Oh, and one other thing…"
The expressions in the final panel! And that Maula is still a suspect, continuing to muddy the waters! *chef’s kiss*
Also possible Maula is simply lying about not being upset about the whole ancestor thing. I doubt it, but possible.
I love that last panel :’D also, glad to see the Abbot doesn’t seem to believe Maula did it… though who knows what he’s really thinking?
