"…oh yeah. I keep forgetting which side we work for now."

Uh oh, crunch time for these girls. No more hiding in the dark (under latex, mmmmm).

I really like these two. So undeniably human, even if their brainwashing was never really reversed, just shirked and sidestepped as best they can.

Remember: not all DMs are ‘bad’, remember Jais and the others who joined (and staid) with Arachne?

Second panel has an error. It should be "I just feel bad" rather than "I just feel back". She’s old, so I’m sure she feels her back, but that’s not what she’s talking about here…

The funny thing is I read that as "bad" until you pointed it out. One advantage of being dyslexic – autocorrect πŸ˜€

Decision time girls, no going back once you make it

And the poor things look so forlorn. I mean, they KNEW they were working for the good guys now, but freeing some random family who have nothing to offer them in return? Man, that really drives the knowledge home.

Was thinking more along the lines of: they can choose to help the family, and lock in "Good Girls", or they can choose to _not_ help and remain locked in "Bad Girls"
        Either choice is final

It’s one thing to be working ‘for’ the good guys, another thing entirely to be working ‘with’ the good guys (‘for’ they could claim they were being _forced_ to help, ‘with’ is by choice)

Now I want to see Flannet "re-brainwash" these girls, and turn them into a power of good. (As a result they change their outfit to white latex(?), and establish the order of the White Mistresses) πŸ˜‰

If I remember right they’re not actually wearing anything. The chemical that gives them that latex look is permanently infused into their skin. There was a exposition about it in one of the strips, and that’s almost a pun πŸ™‚

Isn’t there a way to remove it? Just not easy, or painless, and probably the chance is running out with the rest of magic

Uncertain, as far as I remember. The permanent alchemical bonding was explained (and done) to Celena in-comic here: https://www.yafgc.net/comic/2374-here-try-this-on/

But I think any speculation on how it could be reversed has been just that, speculation, based on general D&D rules rather than on YAFGC canon. The ideas usually involve powerful spells like Regeneration, which might not even exist in-world. (Or if they ever did exist, might no longer exist in the relatively low-magic and low-god-count ages to come.)

Also, the proposed cures tend to be…horrific, even a world where characters cheerfully do horrific things to each other all the time. I really hope if they’re ever tried, powerful anesthesia is involved.

On the bright side, it may turn out that there’s some specific alchemical reversal process a little more merciful than "remove the outer centimeter or so of the patient, then regrow it with magic."

I’m thinking the best solution might be a reawakened goddess of goodness, light, and all that jazz.

Yeah, was thinking something like Regeneration
Didn’t they do something similar with someone’s tattoo?

Why remove it? They can have a second layer πŸ˜‰
And on a second thought, Light Mistresses might would be more fitting, as they are called Dark Mistresses…

It’s hard to deprogram, even when you want to.

Some of the conversations remind me of a D&D campaign I played in where the DM’s orcs were evil corrupted elves. All was fine until we got to a village of good orcs. So my wife pointed out that these were good corrupted, evil corrupted elves.

DM was not happy with her.

A smart DM would have asked her how to turn plastic back to plant matter. πŸ™‚

I mean, I could see it working. They were elves corrupted by evil but later found redemption. Though they still bear the β€˜scars’ of their previous corruption.

It’s a great final panel. The expressions really indicate uncertainty about which side to take, and not, for example, concerns about getting injured.

"Well, yeah. Getting injured is half the fun of being a Dark Mistress."

(Injuring others is the remaining half.)

Looks like the chapter title has sobered up since it was last seen in public.

Something about the pacing and flow of this strip is so right. It feels so natural. Things in life to tend to crop up right in the middle of stuff. Just when you’re getting comfortable, bam! Something unexpected happens.
