The growing cloud behind them. So much said…silently, behind the conversation. Classic Rich.

Oh yeah. Sometimes the carnage is best left to the imagination since that can be much more graphic than anything you could actually show. As some horror movies have proven, there’s only so much effect you can get from being overly-visceral.

Heh, yeah. It looks like his upper eyes have grown wider so his Firing eye can focus better.

Nice to see the current list of reasons to attack the Rannites keeps growing.

Hopefully Meegs survives. I’m still holding out hope for a way to restore those corrupted by Ranna.

So am I, but Meegs wouldn’t be all that near the top of my triage list compared to say, Celena, or Sahar, or Random Unwilling Rannite Convert #5183. Even before she was snake’d, Meegs was mostly looking out for Meegs.

I’m not even sure that really is Meegs. Where’s her familiar?

Me too. Though I would mind Celena not being "cured" less than Meegs. As for one, we harldy knew her before she was converted. Second, she was converted through torture, her will was completly broken. It would make more sense if she would stay Rannite -with restoration working only on those who were converted with the magical drink. And last, thats exactly what I liked about Meegs, that she "was mostly looking out for Meegs." It was one of the fine examples how much people are not black or white in this comic, and I think she always added a flavour to the strips.

Agreed; as a character, Meegs is great, and I would miss her presence in the strip (as I miss Arachne.)

On the empathy-for-these-silly-cartoon-people front, though — which I think is where we’re coming from when we hope that Ranna’s mindf*ck is reversible — Meegs is less sympathetic than many other victims of Ranna’s press gangs, even as these others wouldn’t leave as big a gap in the story.

Even if they were to remain transformed into gorgons as sort of a scar/reminder of the darker ages when Ranna ruled, as long as their personalities and alignments were restored, I’d be satisfied.

Random Question: Does Ben’s anti-magic eye still work if he loses his Glasses? Erm.. Glass? Eyeglass?

Another related question: What’s holding them/it up? I’m guessing the power of dadness.

Duck tape! But his skin is the same colour, so you don’t notice it.

Actually, he is holding it on with a little telekinesis. Beholders use TK to move around, so he can direct a little of it to holding his glasses on. If he loses his glasses, he just won’t be able to focus on his target. In other words, he sends out a weaker beam to more targets instead.

Does that mean the music to accompany the action in the background is "Yakkety Sax," a la, Benny Hill? 😀

        That’s simply the best reason.

I remember when you pointed out to someone that Bob had been ‘carrying’ things for ages, and a whole bunch of people had never noticed or thought to ask how. That may have been back before these forums, when such discussions were held on LiveJournal.

An idea for why a Beholder might wear glasses and a moustache: it’s a red herring, a pretend achilles heel for victims to think it gives them a chance.

        "Ha! I have your glasses!"

"Good thing I only wore them for show. Good for me, that is. Too bad for you."

So what’s the collective noun for beholders anyway? A glare?

Well, a group of crows is called a murder, so I’d think a group of beholders at least deserves to be called something more infamous and auspicious.

      A cataclysm, perhaps…

Fnordius: Is that the beholder version of "I am not left-handed" (a la The Princess Bride)?

A "glare" of Beholders. Works for me!
