That's one of the hardest places to armour. The hips require a huge amount of flexibility, it was incredibly expensive to have articulated plate covering there. Mostly you'd have a skirt of plates protecting from the front and back, and rely on attacks not coming from directly below you. Here though Aeden is bending over with his back to them, leaving him exposed.
