So how did Meegs keep her hair? None of the other gorgon conversions have kept any.

I really miss liking this comic, but the Ranna plotline has made the whole thing so unenjoyable for me for over a year now. I just wish the comic was fun again.

I’m sorry you feel that way. I guess I appreciate your being open with me about your feelings on the subject and I thank you for sticking it out even though you’re no longer enjoying it. I am, however, committed to my story and I hope that you’ll stick around to see how it ends and will enjoy the next ones more.

I try to respect other people’s opinions, even when they are wrong. πŸ˜‰

My opinion (which should be unsurprising) is that you’re doing just fine, Rich. Thank you.

I suppose the thing I have to say about the Ranna storyline is that it has has some of the most disturbing elements in it of any of your storylines. It’s been pretty tough watching such terrible things happen to such beloved characters. I’m holding my breath as to which ones might be salvaged (somehow) from being permanently ‘retire’ from YAFGC. Until now, the fate of Jone has been the most tragic … and that feeling is now multiplied several times over.

Gotta say, that’s some fine storytelling to get that invested in the characters.

        Please: do carry on!

I’m with you on this. I’m not sure I’d be tuning in as regularly as I do if I didn’t love most of the characters in this ambitious and enormous cast he’s created. I’m sure it’s hard for people to let go of them, but isn’t that a better option than bland interchangeable characters?

Also, I can’t accept this idea that the strip isn’t fun any more. There have been comedy sequences throughout this storyline, most obviously the recent visit with our beloved ghost of Weepwood. The comedy/drama/tragedy balance has been a-ok by me.

The Ranna storyline is dark, full of twists and turns (I occasionally have to refresh myself on past events) but a great story. And as has been mentioned, features amazing characters that I love.

It’s obviously evolved from how it started, but basically every webcomic ever has. (The dialogue is typed now!)

I like what Rich is doing, but I get that maybe people who prefer to tune in to lighthearted fun and shorter arcs wouldn’t be into what the story currently is.

Personally, I’m actually physically incapable of stopping myself from checking up on this comic until I see that Lucas, Cadugan, Dewcup and Arachne are actually all okay.

I am also with you on this one, though I can understand the other side as well. I also left comics before because they changed so much to their disadvantage over time…
However, I think yafgc had darker storylines from the more-less beginning onwards. Lich of the Rings for example… Must admit, some of them I didn’t like that much either when I first read them. I think mainly because we always lost some of the characters in them, and by that time I just liked them too much. They all got better though as I read them again. πŸ™‚
By now I think it even does some good for the comic to alter between exciting and funny stories.

As for the Ranna arc… I just can’t not check it. I really want to know who gets through this mess, and I’m really looking forward to their new adventures as well. The only thing what still really disturbes me is the loss of the Black Mountain. It was over a year by now, and yet, I still can’t picture yafgc without it…

As much as I dislike the Rannite storyline, it’s more because Ranna’s winning. Almost like she’s unbeatable. I am so invested in these characters (checked back daily for the past decade pretty much…) that it hurts seeing them killed/corrupted/brainwashed.

I hope that the storyline has a good ending and somehow they’re able to save whoever still can be saved, and that we get to see Ranna and every one of her loyalists get their just desserts. I just have a horrible apprehension that the climax won’t be satisfying because I honestly cannot fathom a fate horrific enough for Ranna to suffer that’d be satisfying.

Still checking back daily (even on days the comic doesn’t update…) and I sincerely hope we get a good and satisfying conclusion. No pressure Rich.

Maybe when a certain princess finds a way to save her tree father she can sell whatever method she uses to the tree elf royalty or the bloodhands to save their family members.

Also, Ranna’s magic demands. I wondered when we saw that flash to the future and they mentioned magic lessening, if it was because of Ranna and her sister. I admit, it’s interesting to see a world where a god runs on magic instead of being suppliers of it (i’ve seen them run on belief, but I don’t generally see them needing actual magic in stories much)

    To Syrinth.

Well I think that’s really a matter of taste, i really enjoy this story and the turn it has taken.
I feel like the characters has all really grown over time and developed and I enjoy seeing how they’ve grown and how they can now fight, I enjoy it a lot.

Well the observation I made is based on the drastic change the gorgon transformation seems to induce in it’s victim’s personality when it’s unwilling. Each time they’ve wound up basically clones of Ranna personality wise not just willing but EAGER to betray people they fought tooth and nail beside moments ago. That’s not just "X turned Evil" there, that’s some pretty severe brainwashing/personality alterations. I just hope Ranna gets her just desserts and there’s a way to save everyone.

Hahahah! NO! He’s dressed like a Robin Hood type of character with fairly tight leggings that don’t get caught on things in the forest.

Ignoring that historically pants weren’t even invented in this sort of era or climate. But this is a fantasy world. Not an historic one.

Actually, the Gauls and the Celts were known for wearing trousers, and the cavalry of the Roman republic also adopted them. Trews of the 13th century would also be appropriate, though they were made of wool. The only difference is that they were literally a pair, held by a belt or laced on to the undershirt.

I’m getting a Chekov’s Gun vibe here, more than a "look at how evil the minions are" vibe. πŸ™‚

Rich, i know for some of the races, like drow especially, names are based on some aspect or similarity. Is this true for gorgons too?
