I am curious, is there a singular pool of magical energy everyone uses? Or is it more like people pull magic out of the area around them when they use it?
Moreover, if there is a single pool (and even if there are several) is there a mechanism to replenish it? Or is there a given amount of magic from the start and once it is gone, it is gone.
Magic is the salt of the writing world. It enhances a world until you realize that everything you write can be short-circuited with magic. You’ve got to either keep it subtle from the start or find a way to eject the excess once you’ve slid past a certain point.
OOOOOH! I got it! THIS is basically Darksun history, isn’t it!? This is the period between Yellow Sun and Dark Sun!
(Those that are confused, look it up, or better yet, don’t! If this story plays out this way, trust me, it’s going to be awesome!)
Sorry toughluck. I’m writing YAFGC, not TSR defunct world supplements. I do have the 2e Darksun boxset, but I’ve never actually read it and have no idea what you mean.
Never actually read Dark Sun either, but from what I heard about it, it’s a world where magic, as is typically seen in D&D settings, is mostly dead. The "easiest" way to still practice magic is to drain the energy for it from the lifeforce of your surroundings, so the setting is now mostly a lifeless wasteland and in the few remaining oases, spellcasters are seen with fear, anger, and disgust.
For the death of magic in YAFGC, I’m tempted to blame Ranna. Her killing and absorbing of the other gods cannot be good for the metaphysical health of the universe. Kind of a killing the golden eggs goose thing.
You can call me crazy, but I’m happier to see Dewcup still breathing than Glitterbranch. ^_^
…
Hey, she managed to transform Ruun into a verdant jungle and soothe the savage survivors of the Order of the Spider in spite of Ranna’s influence! The kid’s developed some serious chops.
I do wonder what that infernal Drowcup has been up to all of this time, though. And Alzaer’bith.

It… does seem that way, if even Ranna is running out
Might be that Ranna is draining the pool faster than it can replenish.
Though from the low-magic future we’ve glimpsed, any natural replenishment might be geologically slow…
Might be that if you drain the pools too much they will then replenish slower than normally.
Dim and Dimmer (you pick which is which 😛 )
I have to say… I hate "magic goes away" plots.
Just hate ’em.
and you HAVE to say that, do you?
t!
Not fond of pineapples myself. Thought you should know.
oh jeeez, THANKS Rich!!! :PPPPP lolol
Ohhh sorry man, not YOU, I like TALKING pineapples. I don’t like the flavour and won’t eat one. 🙂
We agree! 🙂
Well, I have to say, I really, REALLY, can’t stand Ranna. I don’t care if I’ve already said that, I just had to say it again. 😀
Her music never quite caught my fancy, but I thought she was really good in Ocean’s 8.
t!
Ohhhh! And t! takes the lead! ZOOOM!
Ah, something we share! ^_^
Me too. I suspect the writers are writing them out of jealousy.

Or transporters.

Heee… or apparently sonic screwdrivers and K9!
Magic is the scriptonite that solves plotholeums.
No.
Well, I actually like them. You can only ignore entropy for so long. I find them refreshing.

Yeah, if you don't like magic, why are you writing a magical fantasy story to begin with?
Pretty much.
I won’t go on and on about it, though.
…darn misaimed reply.
It has been a long time since we’ve seen Cadugan’s dad & aunt.
Alternate dialogue for panel 1:
"How’s that new plant species working out, Dewcup? The one with the long serrated leaflets?"
"Have you ever looked at your hands, Glitterbranch? I mean, really LOOKED at your hands?"
" My hands are so weird, man "
" I told you not to eat those mushrooms "
Hmm, it looks like Dewcup’s future as an exterior decorator and landscaper might be in jeopardy. 😉

No worries, my comment was tongue in cheek.
Don’t look it up, we’ll see if you end up making it in any way similar to how Darksun ended up 😉

You are not telling me anything new… ^_^
Holding vigil over Arachne’s body (or ‘fooling around’ next to it)
Rich- it’s cool- i knew what you meant but had to bust your chops anyway! 😀
Does this mean that… *sniffle* ….that you forgive me?
Nope. Means there’s nothing to forgive lol
