Correct – grell tentacles carry a paralyzing toxin. This came up in the strip ages ago, when Bob was turning enemies to stone and Grell was paralyzing them – meaning that they weren’t leaving corpses around to be re-animated by Lewie and Kila.
To be fair, they might well have forced the potion on her. Once they have the snake-hair, they seem more vulnerable to control by Ranna. Now if someone could just cook up some de-gorgoning serum, that would be really useful (along with a continent-wide stone-to-flesh spell).
Well, I don’t think there are many who would take that potion willingly, unless they were already rannites. And it does seem to have a very quick effect, see for that what happened with Sahar for example…(http://yafgc.net/comic/2880-the-serpents-vengeance/)
And really, just why not use it on someone who has a significant control of magic, and wouldn’t make a good mistress anyway?
The giveaway was that last page, Meegs didn’t take the time to specify WHAT magic she used. You know she’d be proud enough to explain exactly what her cunning escape was.
Well, Meegs always seemed to have some sort of hidden darkness to her.
I mean, she dressed up like Maleficient once. She still sided with the heroes, but it did make me doubt her stance. Plus, some of her research were somewhat dubious, if I recall correct.
That being said, she might have been forced, as she is a powerful mage.
I took me a while, but now I figured out what was so strange about this strip. I mean apart from the fact, that Meegs still has her original hair next to the snakes. The rest who drank the cocktail converted quick and seemed to be perfectly content with their actions afterwards. I would say, Meegs looks rather unhappy, as if she would be doing something she doesn’t really want, perhaps even regrets already…
Maybe she didn’t get a full dose?
High intelligence does not always translate to high wisdom.
I think being mind controlled or tortured into blind obedience by default costs you some brainy stat points.
P.S. Mark called it. good job mark.
😀
Well so much for meggss…..ah well she makes good fodder
I dont’t think he killed her.

Ah yes, here’s the reference…

Every time I see something like what Meegs did, I’m reminded of

I see what he did there…
…Even though he didn’t see what she was doing there.
This one should be called, Smeeeegs.
(Red Dwarf joke)

Aw, poor Meegs. They got her, too.
Fortitude saves, not a mages strong suit.
How in the hell did she hide that?
Illusion magic? She is still a mage, after all.
Snakes and normal hair? We’ve not seen that before. Perhaps the normal hair is a wig or an illusion?
Maybe the transformation is very recent and Meegs’ hair hasn’t fully transformed yet.
I do hope they can pull her back from the darkness — I was always fond of Meegs.
Being mindful of others has never been Meegs’ strong suit.
t!

Yes!

Man, Meegs too?
This arc has been particularly brutal to the female cast, hasn’t it?
(Not a complaint, just noticing a trend.)
So what if the gorgon potion is given to a man? There are male gorgons too, why aren’t the Rannites using them?
For that matter do we know what happens if a Dark Mistress suit is put on a man?
That man will have a permanent First Initiative due to surprise and shock effects. 🙂
Grell (last panel): Boop!
Everybody can be hacked! Or…snaked?

Points to those of you that called it.
And points to the Grell for the take down. 🙂

Poor Meegs. She was never my favorite character but I still hope that they don’t have to kill her.
