He’s just lucky he didn’t go into the next cave down, which includes the Hall of Skeletons, the Altar & Chapel & Temple of Evil Chaos, and eventually an imprisoned medusa. That is, it would have if we assumed everything in the yafgc-verse is the same as the Gygax-verse.
