That’s a call-back to an episode several hundred strips ago.

      To which one?

(I’ve re-read the comic often enough, so usually I don’t have such problems, but right now I really don’t know which one you meant.)

Episode where Caudugan is having some chit-chat about the people living at the Abbey, and Br. Yeecchh was mentioned.

To avoid interlopers barging in, they should have discussed this in a privy council.

Maybe it’s my sense of humor that’s lacking, but that was a crap joke.

And here’s another, from Monty Python:

What’s Brown and sounds like a bell?

          Dung!

Maybe it’s me, but I find the detail of Brother Yeech having a plunger hilarious.

So either we can assume flush privies are a thing, or it’s just for the gag. Works either way.

i also love how happy he seems.

Is Cap’n Carruthers giving the Abbot the side-eye, or is it just me?

I can see that, and think of a few reasons why. Quite a bit of info seems to have bypassed her in the original investigation.

And the abbott looks a bit… worried or concerned.

Love Cadugan’s reaction too-agreed he’s taking this in stride. Like what it says about his character 🙂

As we’ve seen, Abbot Heigh has been infamously reluctant to disclose information relative to the murder.

This might have a tendency to make the investigating officer a touch, er, touchy.

Apologies, bypassed is an inappropriate term, as it implies a flow of info that she wasn’t privy to, not a blockage so to speak by the verbally constipated abbott. It was not a reflection of her character, but on the abbott’s. In world, yes, touchy is an understatement of what most investigators would be at finding out this info now, in front of outside arbitrators, when she’d already be understandably defensive, instead of during the initial inquiries.

Out of character though, it’s a balancing act between her being competent as a character trait, and providing clues and herrings for the readers in an enjoyable manner. Showing, not telling, in other words.

Personally, i’d be telling him off for withholding evidence, and making me look for clues to point me in the right direction in a Heigh-stack.

I knew it, our puns have sunk so low that now Brother Yeecch is making an on-stage appearance. We’ve dredged this offal word play on too long now.

You know, given how Brother Yeecch gets his ‘food’, and his probable awareness of who provided what part of it, he might be able to provide insight into the timing of people’s… "movements"…. over the course of the day in question.

To a point. He has deep understanding–of only 1 or 2.
