The less sexual dimorphism your species has, the more likely your species can get by by just finding a member of your species rather than by finding the right member of your species. While elves aren’t flatworms, they’ll get it right eventually.
Not really. It doesn't matter how similar they *look* to each other, a species "gets by" when partners have the right tab A and slot B. If you fall for someone with the same set of parts that you have, you ain't having children. Without dimorphism we would expect that fully half of couples would end up homosexual, instead of a few percent. Though given how long-lived elves are, maybe that explains why they aren't outbreeding all the other races and taking over the world by sheer dint of population.
Why do you think in practically every fantasy world in which elves appear, they are a decadent, sometimes to the point of being nearly extinct, race? The ones that are actually into heterosexual sex are usually more interested in humans.
Well given how long they live for, there has to be *something* preventing them from overrunning the whole world. If they had similar birthrates to humans but live ten times as long, they'd quickly outnumber everyone else.
Wait, even _elves_ have trouble telling their genders apart? o_O
Either that or they just don’t care ^^

I guess it’s a side effect of being a mostly-Chaotic race…They get by through trial & error a lot.
😀

I think Caelin knew perfectly well that Cadugan’s male. Considering his relationship with Baron Elwood, I’d say he’s gay or at least bi.
