Well written, Rich! You have created not only a sympathetic new protagonist, but one that is believable.

Did the prophecy also mentioned what happens with him after Drostardy is saved?

Time to tell him about this new Goddess, who literally eats magic, and most of the other Gods and Goddesses

"Well, your friends aren’t ALL gone. Edrumore and Theorie will be glad to see you, and you missed Pado by a few years but his wife says hi."

Actually, just because they were alive two thousand pages ago doesn’t mean they are still alive, considering there is war against Ranna going on …

Also, as time does indeed pass in this comic, that was at least 5 years ago. Rich would be able to give a better answer

Hmm… the math don’t add from the issue you linked.

Pado died when he was 112, but King Eric I was in his "hibernation" for 132 years, leaving a 20 year gap… so unless the Great Bardic Challenge took place more that 2-3 decades ago (where we first meet Runt at age 8), King Eric I and Pado could never have met…

Eric I just woke up. He’s probably still clearing the cobwebs from his mind. He probably just needs a cup of coffee or 20 to get his bearings about how many years it’s been. 😉

Good point, Alyx. I had missed Pado’s age in the birthday strip.

So Pado ran with the same adventuring companions as Eric I, but several decades later (unless he joined them as a small kid.) It’s nice to know Alanna and the rest lived long and adventurous lives!

See people… this is why I keep a comprehensive timeline of events in YAFGC. Because there WILL be people who double check and WILL find mistakes. 😀

I’m wondering if he has ghost powers. There’s one power I’d like to see: he doesn’t need to breathe anymore, so he can fight at a high intensity without getting out of breath. Maybe he can fight without even getting tired! Also I’m guessing that if you stab him, he won’t die, being already dead. I’d guess that he’d be vulnerable to some kind of "banish from this plane" spell.

Don’t believe he is a ghost, not even a revenant like Captain Mak

Now, Rich may have other plans, but if this is an Arthur sort of situation then he was not dead but in a sort of suspended animation. It is a common trope for the hero, when mortally wounded, to be taken to Avalon or put in a restorative coma, with the waking trigger being "when our land is in dire need".

Which means Eric I wasn’t dead, he was in a Snow White sleep, and lucky his coffin was shallow enough to escape from. Or the restorative magic brought him to the surface.

Which leads me to think a trigger of "in direst need" is a little vague, and the mage who set it up might have been more technical, had a dead man’s switch that released Eris when the containing magic was drained?

Well, that should win him a few points with Queen Clover. She might be the one that undertakes to brief him on the current situation, given her contacts, etc. It will be interesting to see if he is destined to meet up with the also prophesied halfling mage. We may have the beginnings of a very prophesied god-killing party forming up.

I do love the way Eric III doesn’t quite grasp the most salient point. He’s always been very earnest, but not 100% on the ball.

I just looked at comic 1112. It says Eric I is Eric III’s great grandfather?

Yup. What you’re seeing there is a combination of a)"YAFGC"/"The Quest" lore that hadn’t been decided on yet and b)simple error on my part.

Lets assume, that the "greats" were meant as adjectives, and that they could have been replaced with "wonderful" or "amasing" or with anything similiar. It was only a poor choice of words, as it can be rather confusing for people not familiar with the family-line. 😉

Eric’s expression (his eyes specifically) in panel 2 is (are) kind of terrifying to me. Would not care to be the Rannite in front of that man.

Agree with all the other assessments of his character, though. Let’s go save Drostardy, and by that act in part, the world.
