Woo! Ch’Thier is back. Here’s hoping she’ll actually be able to make a difference against Ranna.
Part of me still hopes she’ll be able to undo or fix some/all of the crap Ranna’s messed up but realistically I don’t think it’ll happen.
Trevor’s face.
Trevor’s face says it all.
And makes a nice counterpoint to the other, mildly impressed kitty in the same panel.
Dice: "Hmm. Biggest laser pointer ever. I see your point, Morgana; this was probably worth the trip. Dinner is still on the normal schedule, though, right?"
Dice sees wings, Dice *knows* what’s for dinner
"Bird bird bird bird bird bird bird bird birdbirdbirdbirdbirdbird…wait. I may need to call in backup for this one."
One wonders how many questions Trevor has for Ch’Thier…. 😀
All of them. All the questions.
She looks different
Been wondering for a while now, but what made you decide to change her from White to Black?
Good question. Something I’d been thinking about for a while. But here’s how my cosmology regarding Ranna & Ch’Thier works:
The twin goddesses are actually half-goddesses. They were physically born into the world thousands of years ago as children in this region of what is known as the Northrealm. They grew up in an area inside what is now the Goblinlands.
I had originally depicted Ch’Thier as a white, blonde goddess before I ever started YAFGC (I lifted them from a D&D campaign I used to run back in the 1990’s.) And the first time she appears in YAFGC was in the afterlife ‘crossroads’ arguing with Gruuumsh about what to do with Glon.
When I did Lewie’s backstory in ‘Lich of the Rings’, I showed that the people from the Northrealm were black before the white invaders showed up from the Nordlands. So logically when the goddesses were born it was amongst Lewie’s forefathers, not the white East Continental white people. That’s when I decided thier physical forms were black.
However they appear to their worshippers (if you check out each of the flashbacks and comics that depict them) as being of the race of the people worshipping them. So they change a lot. I’ve drawn them as black, white and Elves at least.
One thing that has remained consistent: Her Divine Cuteness 😀
Neat…
just goes to show skin color doesn’t matter, whether you’re black, white, or asian, deep down inside we’re all just powerful cosmic entities that can warp reality to our will. so inspiring.
Well, to an extent, we are.
"I SUMMON ENTROPY!"
I am curious about that; if Ch'Thier *predates* Lewie's people, and comes from their land, how come they didn't worship her? She was the goddess of the region before his time, and after his time, but during his time they worshipped Hano, Kila etc…?
If the current people of Elegrost come from the northmen, and they brought their gods with them, wouldn't that make Ch'Thier one of *theirs*?
Ch’Thier’s expression is awesome–the complete antithesis of Ranna’s constant cruelty and rage.
I can’t help but wonder if her sister’s about to learn (relearn)–kindness and compassion are not signs of weakness. Never have been, never will be.
Agree with Rancourt about Trevor’s face, too.
What about Naomi’s face?
Thank you! I was going to mention my cousin. She has that "I knew it" look ALL the time around me.
Question: When did you decide on changing Ch’Thier’s skin colour?
I think it’s been mostly a cultural thing. White Elegostians imagine her like them, while it shows Ranna and Ch’Thier as darker skinned in the flash backs to Ranna’s first downfall.
Hello, everyone! I think Ch’Thier and Ranna are one entity, but two halves of it. Like a Drow-Dewcup and Dewcup.
You know what might be kinda neat? If instead of fighting Ranna, Ch’thier (did we ever get a pronunciation of her name? I’m kinda curious) wound up deciding to fight her sister’s evil by merging with her. One goddess embodying balance in all things, now Neutral.
Tchuh-THEEer.
Signed: one of the players of that original D&D campaign.
Thanks! A definitive pronunciation also makes it easier for me to get the spelling right. (Which is relevant because the forum software sometimes sends posts with Ch’Thier’s name misspelled into moderation limbo for reasons I don’t quite grasp…)
Also, I’m jealous of hell of anyone who played in that original campaign. I imagine it was a great time! 🙂
Yeah, I’m not the greatest speller. The proper spelling is Ch’ThIER, but I’m a touch-typer and the fingers often go their. If you know what I mean.
Thank, Kanthara! 😀
Vanessa: You had me at hello.
…and the chorus sings Hallelujah!
She is totally adorable!
Behold! The return of the messiah!
Considering that was not what the mages were aiming for, are they going to change their plan now?
On a side note: Feddick is tagged among the characters. Isn’t he supposed to be in Silverydale?
HAH! Good catch!! Fixing that now! (It’s hard juggling all these characters!)
But out of all the battlefield contingencies that force you to improvise a new plan on the fly, "We now have a goddess on our side" is not the WORST one to face…
Also, Ata is also tagged, but I can’t find her in any of the panels. (A reaction shot from her would be cool, though. The lady has been working toward this moment for a LONG time.)
She is actually in the Foreground of the second panel. I forgot to shade in her skin however so she looks rather pale. I have since corrected this error on paper, but when I tried to replace the strip it got complicated so I gave up. Sorry about that. I didn’t really whitewash Ata, I promise. I just… missed a step.
Eh, just say that Ch’thier’s divine radiance makes everyone look pale and washed out in comparison 😛
Oops; there she is! I need more coffee!
(It wasn’t just the pale skin that fooled me. Somehow I imagined the tip of a pointy ear poking through her dreadlocks, and thought that character was an elven or half-elven mage.)
You know you’re divine when you don’t have bed hair 🙂
maybe she’s born with it, maybe it’s Maybelline
Umm, isn’t Maybelline makeup products, not hair care?
honestly I’m not sure, whenever an old Maybelline commercial would come on I remember seeing the girls hair flying everywhere so I just associated Maybelline with hair care products. if it turns out that Maybelline actually has nothing to do with hair care products then the guy in charge of marketing is an idiot who is bad at his job because I literally didn’t know it had anything to do with makeup.
Hooray!!!! YES! YES! YES!!! I’ve been waiting for this moment for a long time, and I’m so glad to see it has finally arrived. Welcome back, Ch’Thier!
Rich, I love the variety of expressions you drew for everyone, from awe, to quiet happiness. But easily the best expression is Trevor’s. Happy kitty! 😀
I wonder how the undead Lewie is handling all that divine light. Isn’t she continuously casting Dispel Undead just walking around?
Maybe he’ll be resurrected? It would make his sister happy; no more awkward introductions followed by having to rebuild him!
He’s one of the Good Guys. Good Guys get auto-immunity to what dispels or kills them in moments of Divine Intervention. It’s called Sciptonite. Or Plotholeum, if you’d like.
#FangLogic #DealWithIt
If it’s a maguffin, though, than Edrumore’s two bird familiars, Thought and Memory, could make some…deposits on Lewie that will protect him. It’s the Hitchcock D&D roll.
But only if the wind is blowing north by northwest
Ah, and when that happens, "The Lady Vanishes!"
[Love it, Fang FanGirl!] 😀
It’s simple. Offensive spells do not affect those in your own party. 😛
Are you sure? When I have goofed, my spells can be very offensive against my own party.
Observation: Ch’Thier appears to be the same race as the viewer only with wings.
Conclusion: Ch’Thier is a Vorlon.
Corollary: Inky thinks Ch’Thier has lovely tentacles, but wonders what the wings could possibly be for. "Wouldn’t they get water-logged?"
I mean there’s any number of down-sides you could think of to gods actually, definitely, verifiably existing. But the possibility, just the outside chance, one of them might actually just say ‘how’s it going’ one of these days would probably go a fair way towards making up for it.
Course the conversation would be fairly likely to go downhill a bit from there, but you know, swings and roundabouts.
I am getting the feeling that the unanmed minion that Rana accidentally created is a living representation of her last bit of sanity. Thst is why she went to get Ch’Thier to stop the madness.
Or perhaps it’s Ranna’s last bit of self preservation instinct and it knows that only by her sisters benevolence would she survive the effect she herself has on the world?
Or maybe regret, that she had to bury the only one that could ever understand her.
Just think of it as the divine brightness of Ch’Their is bright. Really bright.
everyone roll Con saves or be blinded for 2d4 turns.
That’s why you should wear sunglasses even at night
So you can, so you can!
This is like looking at my phone in the morning.
" The future’s so bright I gotta make a DC 15 Con save or be blinded "
She wades into a massive war.
And is calmly smiling and saying hello.
I LOVE that.
t!
I do love the way our host manages to make a skeletal lich look wide-eyed … 🙂
Rubber bones 😀
I’ve been reading this comic since the beginning, and I really appreciate all the work you do. I don’t often comment on anything, but I had to delurk to tell you "thank you". We can all use some joy and victory after the past few months, and this comic was epic. Made my entire week, and it’s only Tuesday 🙂
And this comment made mine. Thank you, Goroxx! I hope you feel moved to comment more often, but otherwise thank you for reading and letting me know. All the best!
