This whole time, I’ve been getting a “Shadow over Innsmouth” vibe. Even with panel 6’s pointy-fangy-vampy thing going on there, with the whip(?) or tentacle(?) putting me in mind of the lash of an Otyugh or displacer beast, I could see it coming instead from a Shoggoth or some spawn of Shub-Niggurath.
