Got overwhelmed with the job. So sorry. If there’s any of you still reading, I’m trying to keep going. 🙂 Promise.
Hey, Rich. As always, no need to apologize, and I hope "overwhelmed with the job" means "there’s more fun and rewarding work to do than there is time to do it."
In the meantime, thanks for the update. Of course we’re all still reading, and amusing ourselves with terrible Gnu puns. (Okay, some of them are actually old puns.) Best wishes to your family and colleagues, and we’ll all be here when things calm down a bit!
Still (always!) reading, still trying to make puns as groan-worthy as many on here. And now Fnordius has no excuse 😛 (see previous page for anyone reading the comments in the future 🙂 )
btw, love the sardonic look by Capt Carruthers, and Cadigan peeping between shoulders!
Still reading. RSS feed means I get automatically notified when you post an update. In it for the long haul.
I actually like being surprised with a new comic LOL
Still here! I check daily. I hope that it helps you also get page/site views.
And, are we positive he meant water? Or is this a dry temple? 😛
Hey, that’s the magic of RSS. It doesn’t matter how long a break you take, we’ll still be here.
Also using RSS. And rarely remove site from reader unless the domain is showing placeholder page with advertisement for more than year.
I break my RSS feeds into "Webcomics" and "Hiatus", with the hope that one day, it can be moved back into the active area.
No worries! I just check in on your usual update days to make sure I don’t miss anything (and occasionally go through some old strips). Glad the job’s keeping you busy–too much downtime is a drag, even when being paid.
No worries, Rich, we understand, and as you can see, we plan to keep checking and reading.
Now to start working on puns about gnu boxes. 😉
I got this image of a gnu with a door in its side that pulls down when the gnu if fed a carrot so a paper could be grabbed. 0_o
And what they said 🙂 i check not only for comics, but for comments, to reread, and to push hits so more people will find the comic to enjoy it. And good surprises are nice to find 🙂
Hey, don’t sweat it. This is entertainment you provide with no required financial investment on the consumer side. I certainly can handle schedule slip if it means you get to put food on the table for you and yours.
A lot of comics only do once a week updates
Just because you usually do more doesn’t mean you have to
We gnu you’d be back eventually 😉
You’re overwhelmed??? I’m in the process of moving from the USA to Bulgaria. I’d gladly change my task list with yours. I’m about ready to have a tall drink of that "water."
Life happens, glad you’re still keen to continue the comic. I’ll be honest with everything going on in the world a little update note in the text below the latest comic would be nice just to let us know that it’s nothing serious but that’s only if you feel comfortable with it.
I don’t think he did mean water. But I do think he did mean ‘in moderation’
Yay! Update!
Add me to the chorus of "don’t worry about it" (again). All these years later, I’m still impressed how you managed to commit to a daily schedule for so long–and are still so committed in the face of daily life and it’s needs, which as the chorus says, also take precedence.
As one of the reasons WHY Rich is super busy with work, I really appreciate his work here and in his storyboard job. Our schedules are tighter than we expected (and that’s with me expanding it already when we built it) and our artists are working long hours to meet deadlines.
I’d also like to remind Rich that we readers are not as fickle as creators think. We can wait, and also the internet is full of content for us to consume while we do. We are standing at a buffet and have our pick of stuff to eat while we wait for our favourite dish to be brought out.
Hey, as long as Rich is properly rewarded for his work, I am happy to take the delay or three. And this comic has been going on for so long, I am just happy Rich is still sharing his wit and his art with us.
Thanks for letting us know he’s appreciated at his day job too!
Thanks, Karine – for all of it!

Love the analogy of the buffet, and even more that Rich is so appreciated! He mentioned a few times that one of the reasons he took this particular gig is to work with friends that he respects and cares for their work. As it’s obviously reciprocated, any updates are a bonus 🙂
i understand this world can be an escape for him as well as us, and so understand the frustration of not being able to visit as often as preferred, but there is no need, Rich, to worry we’d desert 🙂 (insert dessert or food pun here).
And thank you, Karine, for helping combine a supply for our Beholder King with income and creative output that is valued so much 🙂
Ah, the last panel reminds me of an old anecdote:
Two kingswords walked into a bar. The third ducked under it.
That is one of my fave jokes, bar none
Sulaaf: "To be fair, I barely needed to duck."
Lexa: "I totally saw the bar, but I didn’t want to wreck the punchline. On an unrelated note, ow. Someone get me a damned ‘water’."
I am now thinking that to avoid drying out, people like the kingswords need to keep a tally of how much liquid they have consumed. Drinking could be tallied on a leather hide, and falling behind is something to be avoided.
In other words, those three need to stay hide rated.
I like the one about the rabbit.

Just happy you’re well, and grateful you make time to tell this story at all. Thank you again!
Oh, of course we’re still reading Rich, you won’t get rid of us that easily 😉
Don’t tell me there isn’t any tea at all.
Not as such, but may we offer you this liquid that is almost, but not quite, entirely unlike tea?
You must be referring to coffee.
Hey. I never do comment, but I check this site daily. Been doing it from strip 200 or so. Love your work. I’m happy to wait.
In Scotland and Ireland ‘usquebaugh’ or ‘whisky’
translates so poetically to ‘water of life’
Same in some Scandinavian countries with ‘Akavit’
Can’t have our trio dying of thirst for lack of ‘water’ now, can we ?
And vodka means "little water"…

Looks like we’ll be cutting to the gnusroom for the latest developments…
Oh, Rich, by now you wouldn’t be able to get rid of us so easily, even if you wanted to. 🙂 (Just in case: its NOT a challenge).
I’m just glad you’re back, I was getting a 404 Error fir two days and got WORRIED!!!
Oh, same here!
Relax, i occasionally still check clan of the cats for an update and they had a decade hiatus. Your storytelling quality keeps us hooked.
Absolutely, 100%, the title of this strip is a reference to Homicide: Life On The Street.
