Ah, the ever incomprehensible UK Rhyming slang. So rarely seen in literature… for obvious reasons.
"Butcher’s" = "Look"
Explanation: "Butcher’s Hook" rhymes with "look", but remove the word that rhymes, and we’re left with "Butcher’s".
It’s almost more a secret code than it is a dialect.
Also makes for some harsher stealth insults and swears, as they shorten the none rhyming words down as well
"Berk" comes from "Berkely Hunt" which in rhyming slang… well you don’t need me vulgarising the discussion further than that.
