I keep hearing about how modern creators "NEED" to be on twitter these days, to network, build an audience, and so forth. I read an interesting comparison which posited your material/website as the space station, Facebook as your mothership/exploratory vessel, twitter as the scoutships that actually break into the new territory.

How many of you 'tweet'? Is it the Big Deal it's purported to be, or Yet Another Online Social Timesuck?

I don't tweet, and given what I've seen of my co-workers who do (or just read the damn things), it is indeed a colossal time suck.

Well, considering some guy got famous by "tweeting" stuff his dad said to him, on a daily basis.. I think it could be a very good tool. Some people live, only on Twitter, and don't have any other social profile (other than things like message boards), so for them, Twitter is THE thing.

Facebook is about connecting to people you know. Twitter is about numbers. How many follow you, read yout tweets, and care what you have to say. If enough people like you, you'll get posted on Facebook and MySpace "read this, its awesome!" and through that, people will become familiar with what you do, and want to read more. Twitter would be a place to post things like "I'm thinking of adding color to this next strip" or "it was a hard day at work, and I didn't have time to work on the strip, so I'll get it out later today" or even personal things like "I can't wait for [whatever]con to hit my town... so-n-so is going to be there and I'm a big fan of their work" Keep in mind it has a character limit of 140. I use twitter, through my AIM Lifestreams. So I don't even have to log into twitter to post. I have twitter connected to my MySpace, so that though I don't go on there as often as I use to, the friends that do, can still see what I'm up to.

Don't get me wrong, it can get annoying, especially if you "follow" a lot of people. If you want to keep track of folks and what they are saying. I follow more people than that, because when they decide to follow little ole me, I return the favor. I don't do anything too important, so twitter, for me, is just a number's tool. Everyone wants to be an internet star these days lol :)

Hope that's helpful. :)

I do not use twitter personally and i cannot say i enjoy the tweets when they are embedded in a webcomics page. There are only so many ineteresting things one can say during the day (links, oppinions, news) before they start sounding narcissistic.
On the other hand there is nothing that cannot be turned into a useful marketing tool.

So we're giving it a shot - find Rich (for however long this experiment lasts!) over at twitter.com/YAFGCRich

Or however those things are constructed. :P
