Okay so.... obviously I'm not up to the task of moderating and managing this forum all by myself... so I've handed much control over to Lord_Fellgrin, Keldorn and Leorin! If anyone else is actually reading this, these people and myself are the ones to go to about ....forum moderatory stuff for the time being.

This is the first time I've been a moderator on this sort of board. I seem to have two extra controls under messages I read: one to warn a user; the other to delete a message. I also found some sort of panel which I could access via Administravia. Anything else I should be aware of?

The latest couple of users have spammy names and seem to link to businesses in their sigs. They have each commented on old threads to the effect of "Thanks for this thread. It was interesting." Do we treat this is spam and delete it? I can't see a way to ban users, just warn them.

There's a Moderator Control Panel link at the top right of your screen on threads or forums. You'll find your tools there.

edit: and remember to check sigs. Some bots try to seem reasonable but have their links there.

Thanks Leorin! At the moment I imagine it'll be mosty just flicking spam off like a horse's tail. But hopefully activity will pick up in here again soon.

It got a lot quieter once the recent spambots were banned. I'm sure we'll find a new crop starting next month.

Today's spam of multiple long posts in several threads is annoying. I've banned the perps and have deleted all the posts from three of the topics but am now doing some work before doing more deletion.

Nothing wrong with pacing yourself. That's how I made it through the Great Spambot Incineration.

I got through them in four or five batches in all. I think it was 180 deletions in all. If I had been able to delete whole threads, it would have been just ten actions plus the banning of the four perp identities, probably all one robot.
